Strange Familiar " How can I say goodbye ? "

The Cleaning series continues to evolve as the artist travels, responding to the environments, cultures, and everyday rituals she encounters. Through familiar domestic objects, she observes the relationship between private and public spaces, and the ways ordinary practices can reveal forms of intimacy, memory, and human connection.

In this work, the artist brings together the broom and the carpet, two objects closely connected to domestic life and acts of care. By observing their different uses in Saudi Arabia and France, she reflects on how the same object can hold different social meanings across cultures.

In Saudi Arabia, the carpet is traditionally spread on the floor for eating and gathering. Folding and storing it can become a shared act, sometimes requiring two people to cooperate. In France, the carpet becomes part of the furniture, while tables and chairs extend the intimate space of the restaurant into the street, creating temporary spaces of public gathering that are later brought back indoors.

Through these contrasting rituals, the artist explores the relationship between objects, place, and human presence. The work also evokes childhood memories and family customs, while reflecting on the changing nature of communication in a time increasingly mediated by mobile phones. The carpet and broom thus become carriers of memory, care, and connection, bridging the intimate past with the present.
